Stud poker is any of the many poker variants in which players are dealt a combination of down-faced and up-faced card in multiple betting rounds. In general, stud poker games are non-positional games, wherein the player who bets first on each betting round may change from round to round. The cards dealt faced-down to all the players are called hole cards. Meaning that one has something valuable that is invisible to other players.
The number of betting round in each game affects how perfectly the game plays with several betting structures.
Stud poker games with four or less betting rounds (for example. 5 card stud poker) play nicely with any betting structure, and are particularly complementary to the no limit and pot limit play.
Those stud games having more betting rounds are more compatible with fixed limit or spread limit. Generally, the later betting rounds of these stud poker games have high betting limits than the previous one. For example, a $-10-$20 Seven Card Stud Poker Game in Poker Stars allows $10 bets for the first two rounds and $20 bets for the subsequent betting rounds.
As a rule, the betting rounds in stud poker games are named after the number of cards held by every poker player when the betting round starts. Hence, the betting rounds which occurs when all the players have three cards is called “Third Street” while the bet that occurs when all the players have four cards is called the “Fourth Street”. The final betting round is popularly called the “River” or just the “End”. No matter how many betting rounds are there in that stud poker game.
